Comment for Mr.Mayo’s class2

October 28th, 2008

To Edward,

Hi, this is Jae Yeon and Ye Rin in SSIS, Vietnam. In your podcast, you have said Vietnamese students do chores at their school, go to school for 4 hours in a day, go to school 6 days in a week, and they go to teacher’s house to eat lunch. Doing chores at school is only for students in few schools and most of Vietnamese school doesn’t do as much chores as you think. They do go to school for 4 hours in a day, and they go to school for 6 days in a week, but most of students in Vietnamese school don’t go to teacher’s house to eat lunch unless they need extra tutoring.

However, we are not in Vietnamese school. We are the students in SSIS, Saigon South International School. Our school is more likely to your school. We don’t do chores at school, we go to school for 7 hours in a day, we go to school 5 days in a week, and we eat our lunch in cafeteria. We don’t know if you can bring your own lunch, but in our school some students often bring their own lunch.

Jae Yeon and Ye Rin

Anthony, you had said that Vietnamese school has 57 people in one class. It is true that Vietnamese schools have one class with many people. And usually they have 40 to 60 people in one class. Moreover, you mentioned that the class starts at 6:50. It is right but sometimes they don’t start class until 7:15.

However our school, SSIS, is different from what you know. SSIS is an international school located in Phu My Hung. We have approximately 15 to 20 people in one class, which is more like your school. And we start our class at 8:00. Our school is mostly similar to American school.

My Family (Reflection)

October 6th, 2008

Right now, My family is living in Vietnam. We left Korea and we

came to Vietnam in 2005 because of my father’s business.

My father is called Tae Kwan and he is awesome father.

He likes to exercise or walk with me. We usually talk about my school and what I am interseted in.

He is always proud of me and also I am proud of him.

Well, sometimes he is really scary, like when I fight with my little brother.

But still nobody will ever have father like I have…

My mom is really pretty. I guess I look similar to her.

She is really good at cooking. It’s amazing!! Especially I like her stews.

She is like friend to me… When I have problems, she listens to me and helps me.

And the last, my annoying younger brother, Yun Jae.

He is also studies in SSIS. He is kind of good at dancing. (What my mom always says)

I fought with him often because of my privacy but his still my nice brother…

They are the members of my family, which I always love and when we are together full of happiness.

This week… what did I do???

October 6th, 2008

From September 30 to October 3, I learned lots of things…

In social studies, I learned how exploration effect to the new world and our class had a great debate.

It was about “Is Columbus a hero or a pitiable man?”

We do not know who won but still I learned how to collaborate with the group.

We wrote a descriptive writing in language arts. In addition, I wrote about Crane-man in ‘ A Single Shard’

Also, we edited each others work to make sentences smoothly.

In science, we had a lab, which is called, phase change of candle wax.

Moreover, we learned about the freezing point and boiling point of the wax.

And the last, in algebra, we practiced solving equations with variables on both side.

These are what I learned in this week!!!
