Advanced Google Search
When I used word “Atlantis” for research, I had number of hits about 42,000,000 for Atlantis. Moreover, there were information about resort, movie and space shuttle. After I used advanced search with key words ‘Atlantis continent’ and put ’shuttle’, ‘film’, ‘movie’ in unwanted words, the number of hits were about 79,900. Then we had results about the lost continent of Atlantis, which we wanted to find.
By searching “Waterbury” with one or more of these words: Vermont VT and any of these unwanted words: Connecticut CT, we had 86600 hits about travel and hotels in Waterbury, Vermont. In the above searches, we have used the terms of multiple meanings and synonyms.
For “San Diego State University,” we had 1,570,000 hits in 0.07 seconds. There was information about education in San Diego State University. When we put “San Diego State University” in exact wording or phrase, there were about 1,140,000 hits. The page was about academic programs in SDSU and public buildings in SDSU. When we typed “Bill 602P” in exact wording or phrase, we had about 112 hits. The page was about “Four Nets for Better Searching”. When we typed “We know he has weapons of mass destruction” in exact wording or phrase, we had 9 hits and the information were about “Four Nets for Better Searching,” Singapore Properties, and advanced search. When we typed “demonstrating genuine leadership” in exact wording or phrase, we had 70 hits, and information about “Four Nets for Better Searching,” Department of Educational Leadership, politics, and a journal of incisive ideas.

so we went to http://www.longwood.k12.ny.us and find “WMI.” Then we went to http://www.longwood.k12.ny.us/wmi/ but couldn’t find anything about Shakespeare.
We tried different ways such as http://www.longwood.k12.ny.us/wmi/wq , http://www.longwood.k12.ny.us/wmi/wq/collin , and http://www.longwood.k12.ny.us/index.html but still couldn’t find about Shakespeare.
Then we searched the site in Google, and we had this page with the name “Untitled Document”. Finally we found the site that shows the information about “Romeo and Juliet” by Shakespeare.
We searched http://www.ssischool.org/ in find pages similar to the page and the information that we had were about other international schools in Vietnam and about Phu My Hung. The numbers of hits were about 27. When we searched http://www.ssischool.org/ in find pages that link to the page, we had 4 hits and information about SSIS, UNI Overseas Recruiting Fair, and about Vietnam.
When we searched kids.msfc.nasa.gov in find pages similar to the page, we had about 27 hits and information about Kids’ education. When we searched kids.msfc.nasa.gov in find pages that link to the page, we had 606 hits and information about Science Resources, Summer Library Program, and NASA Robotics.
What I learned from google search is that if we use google advanced search, we can find the accurate information faster. Moreover, while I used adcanved google search, I learned some signs too. For example, if there are unwanted words, you can use negative sign (-) to get rid of that word.
Another fact that I learned is if the page is unfounded, I can search that site in google and find that site.
Lastly, I learned how to find similar pages and the page that links to. From now, I can research more accurately and easily…
